Olivia Smith, Violin and Viola Instructor

Abigail Goodman, Violin and Viola Instructor

Abigail Goodman is a professional violinist and private teacher located in Melbourne, FL. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Music Performance, where she studied with Dr. Ross Monroe Winter. She is passionate about classical violin and old-time fiddle, and with fellow teacher Olivia Smith, placed third in the Florida State Twin Fiddle Contest, hosted by Florida State Fiddler’s Association. In addition, she also served on the American String Teachers Association Student Advisory Board and is an active organizer of the UCF Orchestra Invitational at the Dr. Phillip’s Center for Performing Arts.

As a teacher, Abigail has a passion for working with students of all ages, and believes in the power of music for building community. She is attentive to the specific needs and goals of each student, crafting custom plans and curriculums for each individual. She is thrilled to be a part of an inspiring team of teachers at Brevard String Academy.

Margot Elder, Violin and Viola Instructor

Margot Elder is a professional violist and private violin/viola teacher from Melbourne, FL. She holds a Master’s degree from the University of North Texas where she studied with renowned violist and pedagogue, Dr. Susan Dubois, and a Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, where she studied with Dr. Pamela Ryan. Margot has also studied with Dr. Chung Park, conductor of the St. Olaf Orchestra, whom she considers a beloved mentor and friend. As a performer, she attended several summer festivals, including Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival and the Meadowmount School of Music.

Margot will be starting work as a String Specialist for the Palm Bay HS Feeder Chain in the fall. As a teacher, she has worked with a wide range of ages and abilities and is passionate about giving each student the tools they need to succeed in music and beyond. She encourages a healthy approach to the instrument, both physically and emotionally, and works to help students to develop their innate musicality. Margot is also Suzuki certified.
